I never got into Kamen Rider/ Henshin genre... I never could get past the bodysuit and spandex these heroes were wearing... Not only that, I found Kamen Rider rather grotesque... I did go over to my friends place to watch it though... (maybe I was a closet Kamen Rider fan).
Oh well, with this sketch, I tried to over emphasize the gross factors I felt about the design of the Kamen Rider.
That whole bug... thing... and they have such smooth chest and stomache! And that silly belt with henshin power!!!
Can you tell I had a lot of fun drawing this?
(Edit: Upon reviewing the design. I felt I deviated from the original spirit of Kamen Rider little too much. So, I added a henshin Stage 01. The premise is that there are different stages of henshin a la Dragonball. In a typical hero genre struggle, when he is compelled (or forced) to have more power, he goes through another stage of transforming. Becoming an even more powerful ... ur... bug.)
ooooo my GOD...this is so cool...it's like the root of all kamen rider series, it's not about some high tech gadget that transform you into a kamen rider. but this...this is the real....the root....the soul of kamen rider. and this is my opinion about what kamen rider should be
Well, the actual "root" of Kamen Rider was Skull Man, who was basically a mutant a la X-Men. There were only two organic Riders yet: Amazon and Shin. The others were all eighter cyborgs, guys in hi-tech suits or holders of a mystical power.
But you have one point there: Essencially, the story of Kamen Rider 1 was that of a human who got turned into a monster, but chose to become a hero.
